Hey Reading Community,
Well, we're off to a good start! Only half-way through the first month and we are already finishing our first book of the Bible (one of the largest, by the way). Last week, we saw the storyline of Abraham and his family unfold, as well as the story of God’s faithfulness to the promise he made to Abraham.
It's probably becoming apparent to you that God has a plan! It's a mysterious plan that often unfolds through strange events and surprising people. God stays committed to Abraham’s family despite their selfish failings, and is able to transform their folly or forgetfulness into something redemptive. We hope you can see this thread weaving all the stories together. These narratives are beautifully told, and they're essential for understanding the rest of the biblical story in the Old and New Testaments.
Onwards!

Week 3
Summary |
|
This week, we will reach the closing pages of Genesis, so it's a perfect moment to reflect back on what this foundational book was all about. The stories in Genesis lay the groundwork and even foreshadow everything else that's coming in the biblical narrative. God has a plan to rescue and bless his rebellious world through this family and its descendants, somehow. In this week's readings, pay particular attention to Genesis ch. 50 and the conversation between Joseph and his brothers after their father Jacob (Israel) dies. There are meaningful themes developed here that will be important to
remember as you open up the following epic book of Exodus. |
